Governor Walker helps kickoff 2018 Tanana Valley State Fair

Fairbanks, AK - On Friday, August 3, 2018; Governor Bill Walker will attend opening day of the 2018 Tanana State Valley State Fair.

The Governor will start the day activities off by assisting at the Livestock Weigh-in. After that, Governor will be the guest judge at the Bubble Gum Blowing contest and Adult Watermelon Eating contest.

“We are thrilled to have Governor Bill Walker participate at the opening day of this year’s Fair. We’re pleased to welcome Governor Walker and all of Alaska to the 2018 Fair." said TVSFA Board President, Steve Rice.

Governor Walker will have a booth so fair goers are more than welcomed to stop by and get more information from the Governor and his staff. The Fair starts August 3rd and runs through August 11th. Gates open at noon every day.

Country Star, Marty Brown to Perform at the 2018 Tanana Valley State Fair

Fairbanks, AK - On Friday, August 10, 2018; Marty Brown will perform at The Tanana State Valley State Fair.

Marty Brown started playing the guitar and writing songs at the age of twelve. When he reached age sixteen, he started entering in local talent shows. Eventually, Marty made his way to Nashville, Tennessee and met with legendary record producer Tony Brown who signed him to a record deal at MCA Records. He made four albums with MCA and 8 videos for CMT Television.

Marty Brown toured with acts such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams Jr. and even had a successful run to the New York City semi-finals of NBC’s hit reality show, Season 8 America’s Got Talent where he wowed television audiences of 11 million people worldwide.

All the attention from America’s Got Talent caught the eye of legendary music producer, Keith Stegall. Under Stegall’s direction, Marty Brown has recorded his hit single, Country Girls which released in March 2018.

R & B Artist, Dawn McClain sings at the 2018 Tanana Valley State Fair

Fairbanks, AK - On Thursday, August 9, 2018; Dawn McClain will perform at The Tanana State Valley State Fair.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Dawn McClain began singing in church at a very early age. An 80s baby with a splash of 60s and 70s influence, she blends and bridges the generation gap between these eras in music, melodically suspending time.

Dawn’s career thus far has been a journey filled with rare opportunities for an independent artist. She deems it a blessing that her projects (“The Love Project”, “Dance Chronicles”, and her most recent release “Life is Beautiful”) were touched with production and co-writing collaborations from some of the Grammy-nominated writers and producers.

Dawn McClain calls her live performance “The Experience” because it is just that – an experience. Not just a show. In “The Experience”, Dawn’s gives you all the passion her heart can give by filling the room with the essence of song.

Rose’s Pawn Shop from California to play at the 2018 Tanana Valley State Fair

Fairbanks, AK - On Tuesday, August 7, 2018; Rose’s Pawn Shop will perform at The Tanana Valley State Fair.

Rose’s Pawn Shop is a folk-rock band that brings the strains of Appalachian and Americana music channeled through five guys from Los Angeles, CA.

In 2010, the band recorded the album “Dancing on the Gallows,” and the band began hitting the road.

With an arsenal of guitars, banjo, thumping upright bass, fiddle and drums, delivering neo-classical-sounding melodies and lyrics, their sound is a wholesome mishmash of creek mud, rusty nails and your mom’s cookin’.

“This is our first time touring and playing in Alaska and we are extremely excited to bring our music to Fairbanks and to get a chance to experience the landscape and culture of Alaska,” said Paul Givant, RPS Lead Singer.

Classic Rock sensation Little River Band to Play at the 2018 Tanana Valley State Fair

Fairbanks, AK - On Thursday, August 9, 2018; Little River Band will perform at The Tanana State Valley State Fair.

Through the 70s and 80s, LRB enjoyed huge chart success with multi-platinum albums and chart toppings hits like “Reminiscing,” “Cool Change,” “Take It Easy on Me,” and “It’s A Long Way There.” Worldwide album, CD sales and digital downloads now top 30 million and LRB has set a record for having Top 10 hits for 6 consecutive years. In fact, they were the first band to achieve that remarkable status!

Tanana Valley State Fair Association Board Adopts Smoke-Free Policy

The Tanana Valley State Fair Association Board of Directors announces that the fairgrounds are smoke free starting June 1, 2018. The Tanana Valley State Fair is eliminating the risk of exposure to secondhand smoke in all fenced-in common areas of the fairgrounds and within 40 feet of the main gated entrances in the parking lots.

“Fenced common areas” is defined by the fence behind the barns to the north, the fence by Creamer’s Field to the east, the fence along White and Blue gates to the south and the Campground fence to the west.

This new smoke free policy includes all electronic smoking devices and marijuana secondhand smoke promotes a healthy, family-friendly environment for all.

Please note that there will be 2 designated smoking areas set up in the parking lot outside the Red and Blue gates.
